With just two years to go before the FIFA Qatar World Cup, infrastructure such as accommodation, roads and travel are on the fast track. As stadium construction progresses in accordance with the Covid protocol, infrastructure is rapidly being completed.
90% of the infrastructure completed. Construction and modernization of major roads to stadiums is 98%.
Eco-friendly Travelling Facilities
Doha Metro is well equipped for spectators to travel to venues. Free Metro Link buses and Metro Express taxis are available to and from the stadiums from Doha metro stations.
Trams are also available at Education City and Lucille City Stadiums. Curvebuses and taxis will be electrified and become eco-friendly public transport by 2022.
Airport development and stadium parking facilities in progress. The minimum distance between venues is 5 km (from Education City Stadium to Al Rayyan) and the maximum distance is 75 km (from Al Bayt to Al Janoub)
Great camps for players
Team Base Camps (TBC) with state-of-the-art facilities for players are designed with accommodation and training in mind.
There are more than twenty TBCs. Separate training grounds for each team include floodlit pitches as per FIFA standards, ancillary team facilities, parking and spectator space during public training sessions. There is a distance of 5 m between the pitches at each training ground. The pitches at the training venues are similar to the pitches at the 2022 tournament.
Hi-Tech Accommodations
The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, the local organizers, provides separate accommodation for players, spectators and guests from other World Cups.
Accommodation includes 3 to 5 star hotel rooms, luxury cruise ships, 16 hotels on the shores of Qetifan Island, and Arab tents with state – of – the – art facilities in the desert. About 90,000 rooms are being prepared. Residential complexes and flats are rented from real estate owners. So far, 15,000 rooms have been set up in 150 properties.
The Supreme Committee has asked the opinion of the natives and expatriates of the country as to whether they are ready to host the World Cup at home.. If the survey gets a good response, the ‘Host a Fan’ project will make the audience stay at home.
Entertainment facilities for spectators
Stadiums are built to entertain and relax the spectators. The park in Al Bayt, the inaugural venue, has facilities such as artificial lakes, restaurants, playgrounds, gardens and seating. About 16,000 trees are planted around the stadiums to provide shade for spectators. One of the fan zones is Al Bida Park in Doha’s Corniche.
